"Are you Ceramics manufacturers? So, do you produce tableware? Tiles?" Working as ceramics manufacturers for more than 20 years, we are often confronted with great confusion when defining what is ceramics and what does this material allow us to create. Ceramics is a big family, gathering many types and kinds of clay: earthenware, stoneware, terracotta, and porcelain are just some of the most popular ones. They are all ceramics, but they are all different from each other, having its own characteristics, particularities, and proper production processes.

As the modern days' family paradigm, this Arfai new line is a synonym of diversity and eclecticism: a family of eight different shapes, in a mix of designs that match and match perfectly.

A long period of research on the main international lifestyle trends to gather the hottest selection of ceramics for the home has taken Arfai team of designers into a mixture of references that gave birth to the brand new BETWEEN COLLECTION, a collection that brings past and future together into the same room.

From the 9 till the 13 February, Arfai exhibited at Ambiente Fair, in Frankfurt, to launch its brand new collection for 2018. 'Between' is the name of the collection displayed at this international trade fair and gathers the company's proposals for the upcoming seasons. In a wide range of new designs, finishes, and decorations, 'Between' explores a conceptual idea of past versus future, presenting ceramic pieces that fit two different, but connected thematic stories: Coloured Memory and Chromatic Future. This duality was clear for the stand visitors', once it was designed to communicate both themes using two trendy shades of terracotta pink and olive green, applied in a total-look format. The novelties are a result of a long period of research on the main international trends for the home and lifestyle, that was conducted by Arfai creative team in collaboration with company Jomaze, also exhibiting in the same booth.

One of the oldest transformed resources in the history of humanity, ceramics is perhaps the most popular material for utilitarian and decorative use worldwide, being produced all over the globe.

Made from the earth, earthenware is a humble material often unfairly considered as ‘cheap’. “It is just clay.” – this is a sentence we are, as ceramics manufacturers, quite used to hear and regarding this, we have something to say: yes, it is clay but there is a lot at stake to transform simple clay into beautiful works of art and design. What are then the major factors behind the cost of ceramics?

Like the shape, also the glaze is key in the design of a ceramic piece. Glazes offer protection and resistance to the unglazed earthenware (biscuit), and allow the piece´s decoration in a multitude of options that will define its design style – trendy? classic? Casual? Sophisticated? The range of options is almost infinite and the main dilemma is to know what is the best decoration solution to follow.
